The Sunny Isles Boulevard Bridge project involved unique deck features, including half concrete-filled wheel paths and a special rectangular close mesh open grid design for bicycle paths adjacent to the curb edges of the deck area. This bridge spans an expanse of the intercoastal waterway, located in Miami-Dade County, FL. Shop installed 2-foot-wide form pans by 8 runs the length of the bridge permitted half filling the grid deck in locations where tires would likely engage the grid deck. This provides a solid deck riding surface while also reducing noise. Along both curb edges of the deck area, a seven-foot-wide bicycle path of close mesh open grid bridge deck was employed (1-inch opening between bars) to provide a more stable and smoother ride for bicycle traffic. This special open grid is capable of carrying truck loadings should that situation occur. Our sales representative, Darko Jurkovic, is reaching out to Seacoast for installation pictures to further showcase this successful project and the innovative solutions it entailed.
